Story of how the painting transpired:

Shiho and I were reading an article about a famous artist who taped a banana to a wall, called it "Comedy," and sold it for over 1 million Jamaican dollars. This absurdity sparked a strong reaction in me, and I felt compelled to create a painting that expressed my thoughts on the situation. 1179 became a way for me to reflect on the value of art, its perception, and the way society elevates certain works while dismissing others.

Symbolism in the Work:

Eyes: The eyes pinned to the ceiling lights represent how, in the world of art, the spotlight is often placed on the main "performer," overshadowing other works that may be just as meaningful but lack the same attention. This mirrors the artificial focus placed on certain pieces, while lesser works are often ignored.

However, due to her financial state, shown through her attire, she cannot afford the work. Her mental health is also subtly questioned here, as the emotional connection to the piece clashes with the barriers of financial limitation and social status.
  6. Center Person with Dog: This figure represents isolation and introversion. Despite the attention the piece is receiving, the person feels imprisoned by the market and the valuation of their work. They are filled with envy, frustration, and regret, asking, "Why didn’t I think of that?" The dog, sitting beside them, observes the scene with
